Vertebrae: 44 - 46. Diagnosis: Odaxothrissa ansorgii is characterised by the presence of prepectoral scutes, the first prepectoral scute longer and better developed than the following ones lacking ascending arms; lower jaw strongly projecting, with strong canines at symphysis; 2-4 strong backward-pointing canines on each side behind outer row of premaxillary teeth; 23-33 short lower gillrakers; anal fin with 2-3 unbranched and 14-16 branched rays; and a silver stripe along flank (Ref. 188, 81269, 81631). It resembles Odaxothrissa mento, which has 16-19 lower gillrakers, and Pellonula vorax, which lacks canines in the upper jaw and has longer gillrakers (Ref. 188).
Found in rivers and streams (Ref. 188), also in lagoons (Ref. 2849, 81269).
