Western Pacific: Fiji and Samoa; possibly also Caroline Islands and the Philippines (Ref. 9822). Replaces Stolephorus commersonii in the South Pacific (Ref. 189).

spines: 0. Very closely resembles S. commerson, but lacking paired dark patches behind occiput and paired dark lines before dorsal fin. Lower gill rakers higher than in S. commerson which has (usually 23 to 28). For distinctions from other species, see S. commerson.
A schooling species in shallow coastal waters. Used as bait in the tuna fishery in the South Pacific, although rare in bait catches in Fiji and Samoa. More data needed.
