Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes) > Perciformes
(Perch-likes) > Gobiidae
(Gobies) > Gobiinae
Etymology: Priolepis: Greek, prio = to saw + Greek, lepis = scale (Ref. 45335); eugenius: Origin of name unclear; either from Greek 'eugenes' for well-born or noble, or less likely from Greek 'eu' for true or original and Latin 'genius', the protecting attendant spirit of a person or place. Both interpretations do not seem especially appropriate for this drab little fish (Ref. 10753). More on authors: Jordan & Evermann.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; reef-associated; non-migratory; depth range 1 - 26 m (Ref. 58302). Tropical
